MIHE represents the latest academic project of the Islamic Foundation, Markfield, Leicestershire. Since its inception in 1973, the Islamic Foundation has been actively engaged in developing and promoting a better understanding of Islam in the West. As a leading academic and research institution, it has published 300 books in English and other European languages on the whole range of Islamic topics and has been regularly publishing scholarly journals – The Muslim World Book Review containing an Index of Islamic Literature (since 1980), Review of Islamic Economics (since 1992) and Encounters: Journal of Inter-Cultural Perspectives (since 1995).
The Foundation has set up research
units on Islamic Economics, Banking
and Finance, Muslim-Christian
Relations, Inter-Faith Dialogue,
Islam in Europe and Qur'anic
translation projects.
The research units are ably
supported by the Foundation's
Library which possesses a rich
collection of materials on these
areas and related topics. In
addition to this continuing
research, the Foundation has
organised scores of courses,
seminars, international conferences
and lectures on the study of Islam,
Islamic Economics, Banking and
Finance, Islam in Europe and the
Contemporary Muslim World.
Participants from Europe, Africa,
Asia and the Middle East have
benefited greatly from these events. |
